Well, I've only really been able to spare the odd hour for a couple of evenings, but I'm pleased with the results. So far, we have a compost bin in place and two beds pretty much dug over.
So, after just seven days of allotment gardening what are the good things and what are the bad?
Bad: Very, very hot weather (just too sweaty!)
Bad: Having to collect water (Brian, our next-plot neighbour says he prays for rain so he doesn't have to struggle back from the water trough)
Good: iPod listening. It's peaceful here, but it's nice to get a chance to listen to some quality podcasts. The most bizarre experience so far has been an "In our Time" debate on the vacuum of space while digging a new bed out...
Bad: iPod headphones. Get them tangled around your spade as you attack the clods and your ears will feel the effect for several minutes afterwards!
Good: the peace and quiet and the relaxation it brings after the dreaded drive through Slough (uuurgh!)
Good: it;s really nice if some kind soul has left the gate open for your car, especially if, like me, you are a padlock dyslexic...
Good: the health benefits. I am certainly feeling the positive effects of several hours digging this week!
So that's four good points and three bad points this week. I guess you could say, ahem, it's so far, so good...
