Let Me Take You to the Beach*
2009.07.03
We went to a couple of places on the shore, but the final place we stopped at was Chincoteague, which is famous for its wild ponies (sort of like the New Forest, for you "scepter'd-isle" type folks). Because of this much of the downtown area is decorated in lurid pony crap. (Annotated.)

We found this great record store in town. This is what I did NOT buy. I'm saving what I DID buy for a different day, because you just must see it.

This is the real reason you go to Chincoteague - there's a huge gorgeous wildlife refuge. Somewhere out there there's an African Great Egret, which if I had a real camera you might be able to see a picture of. Some day....

To get from DC to the shore, you've gotta cross the Bay - there's no way around it, unless you want to go via Wilmington, Delaware (you don't). So here's the bridge you take. I used to be horribly phobic of this bridge; for some reason lots of people are, I think because it's really tall and curves in a creepy way at one point.

Friday was a holiday so we went to the beach to look for a couple of birds, one of which was a Great Egret that is apparently of the subtype that should only be found in Africa. Of course I didn't take any pictures of the birds - my camera is in no way up to that. But here for your delectation is some random other stuff.

I'm phobic about a few bridges. I think it's the height, plus I don't like the thought of falling into deep rivers.
Love, love love Chincoteague and Assateague- it's where we normall would go for a beach get-away- Refuge Inn or the place across the street.
Am very, very familiar with views 4 & 5!!
